Last year I was privileged to be asked by CHILDREN FOR HEALTH to write some children's stories to help prevent child malnutrition and disease in Mozambique and other African countries. My husband David, an illustrator, produced the artwork.
In Mozambique the dreadful fact is that 44% of all children under 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition in spite of there being fertile growing conditions, due to a lack of information around nutrition and hygiene. Children for Health understands that school-going children can be mobilised to learn about and address nutrition problems and influence family nutrition practices. A recent evaluation of the programme (2016) suggests that it is having a powerful impact on the lives and the health of children under 5. The story books and a teaching guide are free online and are all available from the Children for Health ‘Shop’.
